My husband loves seafood, especially crab. Here in Bangalore, we get the salt water variety. It is reddish in colour. In our home town we used to buy the fresh water variety which is green in colour. Both are tasty even though I prefer the green ones. Try this mouthwatering recipe!
Ingredients
Crab: 1 kg
Onion: 1 big sliced
Ginger: 2" piece chopped
Garlic: 4 chopped
Green chillies: 3 slit
Curry leaves: 2 sprigs
Tomatoes: 2 chopped
Grated coconut: 1 cup
Coriander powder: 3 tsp
Chilli powder: 1 tsp
Turmeric powder: 3\4 tsp
Pepper powder: 1 tsp
Garam masala: 3\4 tsp
Salt: as required
Coconut oil: 3 tbsp
Coriander leaves: 1 tbsp chopped
Method
In a large pan, heat oil and add the onions, ginger, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves. Fry till the onions turn light brown in colour. Meanwhile, grind the coconut to a smooth paste. Now add the masala powders to the pan and fry for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and fry well. Then add the ground coconut and salt. Pour 2 cups of water and cleaned and washed crab. Keep covered and cook on low fire. Stir in between. When the crab is cooked and the gravy is thick, put off the fire. Garnish with coriander leaves. Goes well with rice.
